Creating with Art

Young Infants Infants at this age need time to explore the things that interest them. We observe infants as they are discovering their first art experiences and also at how they are moving their hands and fingers to explore. Art at this age is not structured but it is giving teachers ideas on how to plan future experiences for the child. |
Mobile Infants Mobile infants can grasp crayons and paint with brushes. Infants at this age are not expected to hold utensils with thumb and finger. They are given fat and stubby writing and coloring untensils to develop their fine motor skills. Mobile infants are given a lot of art supplies and with the help of their teacher they are allowed to explore the different materials they can be using.

Toddlers Toddlers have more control over their muscles than infants so they are allowed to begin the process of painting and coloring by themselves. Toddlers are more aware of what they are doing and understand directions. They also like when teachers or adults talk to them during their art process. |
